About Jess Corcoran Consultancy

Hey, I’m Jess! I’m a freelance strategic marketing consultant and a careers coach, based in the Liverpool City Region, working with purpose driven organisations and people. I have over 12 years of experience across a variety of marketing and communication roles, working both agency and in house, including for some of the UK’s most well-known brands, like Betfred and Very.

But before all that, I accidently crafted my marketing career from around the age of 11, first learning how to edit HTML code so I could take the copyright label off my freeglitters.com font for my piczo site, before moving into blogging, creating my first blog at 14, when my year 10 work experience was boring. This progressed, and aged 17 I got myself a column “This month with Jess Corcoran” in a local paper, alongside helping local community groups run their Facebook pages. After this, I began an apprenticeship in marketing, and the rest they say, is history....

These days, my career is focused on the third sector, alongside female founders and neurodivergent individuals, combining my years of experience with a range of key services, to empower them to communicate clearly and confidently, so they can work towards achieve their intended purpose or goal – this covers everything from creative exploration workshops, strategy and marketing plans, practical support with social media or CV reviews, and coaching sessions. My integrity and values mean a lot to me, and this drives me both personally and professionally, and you can read more about my values further down this page.

Outside of work my current chapter of life is focused on joy – I love simple things like walking my dog whilst listening to a podcast (Newscast/How to fail/Off menu are the ones often on rotation!) grabbing a coffee and a pastry with a pal, reading a new 99p kindle book, and just generally being creative! I also love learning, and my most recent educational journey is about to come to fruition, as I’m soon to qualify as a counsellor!

Why did you launch Jess Corcoran Consultancy?

After spending years in corporate environments, I took stock of what my working life had looked like. I had lots of skills and experience in both marketing, business and people, but I found that many of the environments I’d worked didn’t align to my core values, like empathy and inclusion, so I created Jess Corcoran Consultancy so I can model the working world I want to be a part of, and show up as my bold, bright, colourful self while helping others.

Whether communications or coaching, ultimately my business is rooted in people. Those who are driven by passion or purpose but feel unsure of their next move - whether that changing their approach to marketing, growing their business, or changing roles or careers.

Would we be the right fit for strategic marketing support or organisational or career coaching?

My branding reflects who I am – colourful, bold and a little bit different. I never felt like I fitted in, so I decided to create a new space where I could be exactly myself. I’m an empathetic human, who sees real value in so called “soft skills” and I pride myself on work driven by my integrity and key values; Empathy, Inclusion and Creativity. I'm also proudly Neurodivergent, and work in a way that encourages everyone to be their most colourful and authentic self.

If that’s your vibe, and you’re looking for someone with natural creativity, curiosity, and commercial acumen to help you steer the ship to your next destination, drop me a line, here.

My Values

Empathy

I see Empathy not just as additional“soft skill”, but instead as a fundamental requirement for how we should show up in response to the difficult and divided world we are in. This means I always work and communicate with kindness, respect, sensitivity and consideration for others, and I expect clients will want to model this ‘work like a human’ too.

Inclusion

I care about people, and believe that everyone deserves to feel seen, safe and included, and I want to maximise opportunities for this to actually be felt in the world, recognising equity and how this may require different things for different people. Inspired by Amy Kenny’s book, 'My body is not a prayer request' and it’s exploration of the 'social model of Disability', I work in a way that considers inclusion of all marginalised groups as a default, rather than as a "nice to have" afterthought. I also champion this with all clients I work with, highlighting ways to be more inclusive wherever possible.

Creativity

A consistent thread of feedback throughout my career? “Wow, I had never thought of it like that before.” My visual brain loves learning, new ideas and looking at things from different angles, so I bring curiosity, a vivid imagination and unique viewpoints. I also support my clients to unlock and trust their own creativity, even if they've labelled themselves “not a creative person.”
